If you have the guidebook and flashcards, you should know how to fill in that blank.
Don’t cheat now. Think it through. Fill in the blank. My Selling Purpose is to ________________.
If you don’t have the guidebook and flashcards, you can still figure this out. Let’s break it down:
- Your art creates an experience unlike any other purchase possible. You are not selling a mattress or timeshares.
- Think of what happens in the lives of your collectors – what effect does your art have on the owners of your artwork?
- What happens when they say, “I’ll take it!” What mood bubbles to the surface for you and for them?
- What is the number one thing your collectors always say when you see them at another show?
They say, “We love our piece.” or, “I wore my necklace at a gathering recently and got so many compliments. I love it!”
Think about the art you own – even the handmade coffee cup you pull out of your cupboard each day – and how it affects your mood. It’s sometimes subtle, but it’s there. We have a unique attachment to artful objects. It makes us smile or daydream. Art moves our spirit to a different time or place or part of our hearts.
Art is VERY powerful. Your Art is VERY powerful.
If someone is moved by your creative spirit, you must embrace this fact: Art is a rainbow that never fades and always inspires good feelings. There is nothing bad about you believing that your art has a deep and lasting impact. There is nothing shameful about wanting people to experience that impact for the rest of their lives.
There is nothing shameful about wanting people to experience that impact for the rest of their lives.
Stop and think about this for a moment and then try to fill in the blank: My Selling Purpose is to ____________________.
You don’t have to buy the guidebook (but you should***).
When you tap into your Selling Purpose, with Intentional Sharing, and Active Listening you become a Decision Counselor. When that counseling is backed up by Empathy and authentically engages with your collectors and would-be collectors with Enthusiasm, you will never “sell” again.
You will want to #findmorehomesforart and your selling purpose will be clear: My Selling Purpose is to help people find the good feelings they deserve from the purchases they make.
Whether you are at an art fair or replying to an email inquiry, every one-to-one engagement with your collectors or would-be collectors requires that you embrace this simple fact: Art – your art – changes people’s lives forever.
